Bonham -- The bad news is that an historic building on the north side of the Bonham square collapsed.

The good news is that it happened late Thursday night and no one was injured.

People arriving at work in downtown Bonham Friday morning will find part of the north side of the Bonham Square cordoned off as workers clean up debris and demolition begins on parts of a building still standing between the Bonham Chamber of Commerce office and Dollar General Store located on the northwest corner of the square.

As a matter of safety, Dollar General will remain closed until the building next door is demolished.

All activities at the Heritage Day Celebration in Bonham will be moved to the Trades Day area by the Bonham Civic Center (armory).

(L-R) Bonham Police Lt. Timothy La Vergne, Bonham Mayor Roy Floyd, Bonham City Manager Bill Shipp and Bonham Police Chief Mike Bankston survey the damage after a building collapsed on the north side of the Bonham Square Thursday night.
