SHERMAN, Texas —The Sherman Museum sponsored an art contest for youths, grade K through 5, to precede the museum’s summer Dino Days 2013, a special exhibition of dinosaur fossils and castings. The winner of the art contest will be announced June 1.

The contest ran from April 15, 2013 until May 15, 2013; during that time children were allowed to submit up to 5 entries per child. Museum staff judged the entries after May 15 and will announce the results June 1, 2013 on the museum’s Facebook page.

Children submitting winning entries will receive a free ticket to the Dino Days exhibition and a special up-close tour of the exhibit including a photo opportunity with “Bucky” the Tyrannosaurus rex. Winning artwork will be displayed throughout the Dino Days exhibition. All artwork will be available for return after August 3, 2013.

“We want children to be an integral part of the exhibition design of Dino Days 2013,” noted Executive Director Dan Steelman. “Dinosaurs are fascinating animals, and children, especially, find them to be a source of wonder. When it comes to extinct
animals like dinosaurs, science and imagination march together as we seek to understand how these creatures lived. This artwork will offer a child’s perspective of the awe, mystery and excitement that dinosaurs generate.”
