Sherman -- You've heard the phrase "big man on campus." Well, the contest at Austin College Monday was to see who walked away with the title of "Biggest Fool on Campus."
For six years, the faculty and staff at Austin College have put the "fun" in "fundraiser" by turning April Fool's Day into a Parade of Fools fundraiser. Good-natured faculty and staff members don elaborate costumes and parade in front of an anxious audience.
The result? Lots of laughs and $13,509 raised for American Cancer Society Relay For Life in the six years since the inception of Parade of Fools.
Parade celebrities this year were Melanie Fountaine as Tina Turner; Wayne Meyer as Red Angry Bird; Margie Norman as Cleopatra, Queen of the Nile; and Heidi Rushing as the Liechtenstein Woman of Dots.
Margie Norman was the top fundraiser in this year's parade.
While this was the sixth year for the Parade of Fools, this is the seventh year Austin College has participated in American Cancer Society Relay For Life. Austin College students, faculty and staff have donated and raised $26,500 for American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, Grayson County.
