Great Horned Owls, Eastern Screech Owls, Barred and Barn Owls can all be seen at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge, and these species and more will be the topic for Second Saturday at the Refuge on February 9.
Dr. Wayne Meyer, who is an Associate Professor of Biology at Austin College and a frequent presenter for the Second Saturday program series, will be the speaker.

Dr. Meyer says that a lot of what people think they know about owls are actually “myth-conceptions.” He will tell the even stranger truths about owls and teach you to identify the owls of Texoma both by sight and by sound. The program will start at 10:00 a.m. in the Visitor Center Meeting Room.
For youngsters aged 5 – 10, Second Saturday for Youth will address the question, “Who Pooped in the Woods?” Much information about various animals can be learned from their scat, such as species, predator or prey, diet, and health status. Andrea Gowans will lead the program; reservations are requested and may be made by calling the Refuge, 903 786 2826. Parents must accompany children who are age 6 or under. The youth program meets in the FOH Center at the Refuge from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 am.
Second Saturday programs are free and open to the public.
