BEDCo names new executive director

Bonham -- In a unanimous decision, the board of directors of Bonham Economic Development Corporation (BEDCo) selected Stephen j. Fillipowicz to fill the position of BEDCo Executive Director.

Final details of the contract will need to be approved by the City of Bonham and Mr. Fillipowicz, but he is expected to be on the job December 1.

When BEDCo president Emily Porter was asked what stood out the most about Fillipowicz, one word was on the tip of her tongue.

"Experience," relied Ms. Porter. "Lots of experience."

Fillipowicz spent the past five years directing the Economic development corporation in Apache Junction, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix.

From 2001-2007, Fillipowicz served as Lancaster, Texas Economic Director.  Prior to working in Lancaster, Fillipowicz was employed by the City of Seguin, Texas (1996-2001) as director of economic development. His first assignment as economic development corporation director came more than 18 years ago when Fillipowicz worked for Jourdanton, Texas (1994-1996) in
Atascosa County.

From 1980 through 1990, Fillipowicz served in the U.S. Army, where he achieved the rank of captain.

Fillipowicz received his bachelor's degree from Texas A&M-University in 1980 and earned a master's degree in public administration from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia in 1994.
