Bonham resident installed as president of Advocates for Texas Osteopathic Medical Association

Bonham resident Kathy Brown has been elected to serve as an advocate for health care and physicians in the osteopathic profession. Mrs. Brown was recently installed as the president for the Advocates for the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (ATOMA) for 2012-2013.

ATOMA is a non-profit organization comprised of men and women who collaborate to strengthen the osteopathic profession. Through education, legislation and social avenues, their mission is to support the osteopathic physician in their efforts to deliver superior health care. Each year ATOMA awards $4,500 in medical student scholarships and donates white coats to incoming medical students.

In addition, ATOMA participates in public health education programs throughout the state of Texas. As President, Mrs. Brown will be traveling all over Texas to promote ATOMA and osteopathic medicine. She will also represent Texas at the national convention this fall in San Diego, California.

Mrs. Brown is an active member of the ATOMA District 13 organization in North Texas. She is a 1992 honor graduate of Kilgore High School and received her Bachelor of Business Administration in 1996 from Baylor University. She is currently attending graduate school to earn a Master of Science Degree in Health Education and Management.

Mrs. Brown is a Certified Personal Trainer and teaches group fitness classes at Nautilus Total Fitness Center in Bonham. She also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for Red River Regional Hospital and is a teacher at Forerunner Christian Academy Co-op. She resides in Bonham with her husband, Michael D. Brown, Jr., D.O., a general surgeon, and their two sons, Parker and Camden.
