Felony indictments on the rise in Fannin County

 On Thursday, May 24, 2012, the Fannin County grand jury met to review thirty-eight (38) cases presented for their consideration.  The Grand Jury returned the thirty-eight (38) true bills or indictments listed below.  Of the new felony charges filed, 17 involved either drugs or burglaries while 5 cases of assault and 3 sexual assault cases were other crimes impacting Fannin County.

In the first five months of 2012, a total of 138 new felony cases have been charged in Fannin County.  In addition, there are 50 cases being held for drug lab results; 4 cases requiring live witnesses to be subpoenaed for Grand Jury; and 8 cases being reviewed by the prosecutors.   All these cases will be presented at a later date.

It is important to note that an indictment is a formal charge and should not be considered as evidence of guilt and that all persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
