Bonham Police Department is pleased to announce the arrest of Emilio Martinez, 46 years of age formerly of Bonham, for Aggravated Sexual Assault.
On October 21, 2006 Bonham Police Department Officer's responded to a Burglary of a Habitation and Sexual Assault in the 1900 block of Liberty St. Bonham, Texas. Upon arrival responding officers spoke to the 27-year-old victim. The victim stated that an unknown male subject wearing a toboggan entered her residence thru a rear window. Once inside, the suspect, armed with a knife, attacked the victim. The suspect, using the knife, proceeded to sexually assault the victim. At one point during the assault, the victim was able to escape the suspect and run to a neighbor’s residence to call for help.
Officers arrived and attempted to locate the suspect. Their search was futile. Bonham Police Department Detective Lisa Hughes responded to the scene. Upon arriving Det. Hughes processed the scene and collected physical evidence. Det. Hughes then accompanied the victim to the hospital where a SANE exam was completed.
Sgt. Bockman submitted the evidence to Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) Crime Lab in Garland, Texas for analysis. The lab was able to extract a DNA profile of the suspect. At that time, the DNA profile was entered into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).
In November 2011, Sgt. Bee received a CODIS hit notification from TXDPS Crime Lab Austin from the evidence submitted. The notification stated the lab had made a possible DNA match to that of Emilio Martinez.

Sgt. Bee then obtained a Search Warrant from 336th District Judge Laurine Blake to obtain a known DNA sample form Emilio Martinez. Sgt. Bee located Emilio Martinez and obtained a known DNA sample from him.
Sgt. Bee submitted the known DNA sample to the TXDPS Crime Lab Garland, Texas for analysis.
On April 26, 2012 Sgt. Bee received a confirmation Serology/DNA report from TXDPS Crime Lab Garland stating that the unknown suspect that committed the Aggravated Sexual Assault in October 2006 was in fact Emilio Martinez.
Sgt. Bee obtained an arrest warrant for Emilio Martinez for Aggravated Sexual Assault. BPD Det. William Abbott arrested Emilio Martinez on May 10, 2012.
