Area youngsters ages 8 – 12 are invited to register for the Nature ‘Ology Camp set for Thursday, June 14, at the Refuge, from 9 am – 4 pm. The camp will be a free, one day outdoor experience, offering a variety of activities.
Representatives from Texas Parks and Wildlife will conduct Seine-ology, dragging a net through the shallow waters of Lake Texoma to show the campers what lives in the lake, and also provide a Beaver-ology demonstration. In Water-ology, youngsters will learn the earth’s water cycle from Karen Glenn, Austin College, and make terrariums to take home.
Bird-ology will include live raptors on display from the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center, and local birder, Jack Chiles demonstrating the latest apps and other technology to aid in identifying and reporting bird sightings.

Campers will go for a Prairie Walk and then prepare wildflower seed bombs under the direction of Second Saturday for Youth leader Katie Palmer. Talks on snakes and on butterflies will accompany displays of a snake collection from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and Master Naturalist Donna Cole’s butterfly collection.

Steve Black, Grayson College, and local artist Barbara Powell will lead sessions of Art-ology, to round out the camp offerings.
Advance registration is required and the spaces are limited. To register, call the Refuge, 903 786 2826, Monday through Friday, 7:30 am – 4 pm. Registered campers will receive detailed information on what to wear and bring to the camp.
