COMMERCE — A Commerce man taken into custody after a foot pursuit has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, evading arrest on foot and prohibited possession of a food stamp card.
On Tuesday, May 08, 2012 shortly after 8 a.m., Commerce Police Officers responded to a call of a verbal disturbance in the parking lot of a local motel on Highway 24. When officers arrived on scene, the man ran from the scene and threw down a plastic baggie containing a white substance believed to be crack cocaine.
The man was pursued by a Texas A&M University-Commerce Police Officer and a Commerce Police Officer and was arrested on University Drive. During the foot pursuit, the man also dropped a Texas Lone Star Card that did not belong to him. Officers were able to recover the drugs, a compact scale and the card.
The man was taken to the Commerce Police Department where he has been booked in on the charges. He will be transported to The Hunt County Jail where he will be magistrated on all the charges.
