At the reception for its annual Photography Exhibition the Red River Photo Club honored its founder, Casey Jones, with a special appreciation award.  An engraved plate was affixed to one of Casey’s own photographs, which was given special treatment and framed by artist Jess Russell.

To Casey Jones, RRPC founder, with deepest appreciation

for generously sharing your knowledge and time

Since founding the photo club in 2006, Casey has spent countless hours instructing us all — both at club meetings and one-on-one — on the many aspects of amateur photography.  He’s helped us learn the basics of using our cameras, the basics of taking good photos, how to use computer programs to enhance and keep track our photos, how to print them on the club’s photo printer, and how to cut mats for framing the finished pieces.  The top-notch quality of the photography on exhibit this month at the Creative Arts Center is due, in large part, to his encouragement and instruction.  Additionally, Casey has served on the club’s executive committee, helping to guide and grow the club.

Casey started the Red River Photo Club in June 2006 as an adjunct of the Fannin Community Foundation and the Creative Arts Center in Bonham, Texas. The Photo Club was organized as a way to bring the ‘art of photography’ to the Creative Arts Center and Fannin County area citizens, and is open to all.  The objective of the club is to promote photography through instruction and exhibitions — as well as through use of our equipment and skills in the community.

Monthly meetings of the club usually include a speaker, workshop, or demonstration; ‘show and tell’ of photos that members have taken on a specific theme; and time to socialize.  Members are made aware of ‘photo ops’ — local and not-too-far-away events that might present opportunities for some memorable shots.  In addition to events such as the Bonham Heritage Day and the Autumn in Bonham bike rally, these include field trips to such places as the Dallas Arboretum, a rendezvous in Oklahoma, or Mulberry Gardens in Fannin County.

In conjunction with the Creative Arts Center, the club annually hosts an open Photo Exhibition.  The 2012 Exhibition includes thirty-five entries taken by club members and other area photographers, and represents a wide variety of subjects.  The public is invited to stop by the Center (200 W. 5th Street in Bonham) Tuesday-Friday (10-5) or Saturday (9-1) through May 24.  Expect to be both awed and fascinated.
