Bonham -- Following deliberations is executive session, a three-year contract that would allow the City of Bonham to continue providing Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to Fannin County was approved unanimously by Bonham City Council in a special session held Tuesday, May 1, 2012.

Council member Wayne Moore made the motion to approve the contract and the motion was seconded by council member Glenn Taylor.

The contract had been delayed twice in previous Bonham City Council sessions, evidently to allow necessary updates to the original contract that is approximately 10 years old.

The three-year deal calls for Fannin County to subsidize the City of Bonham $540,000 annually, which is $10,000 less than the county paid last year.

Fannin County Commissioners Court had originally approved a contract on April 2, but now that the document has been slightly amended, county commissioners will have to vote on the updated contract, presumably at the next regular meeting of Fannin County Commissioners Court May 7.

Fannin County Judge Spanky Carter and Bonham Mayor Roy Floyd have both stated it was a high priority to establish a long-term EMS contract that would be equitable to both the county and city.
