Statement by Laura Bush

Dallas, Texas – “The people of Burma have waited decades to have their voices heard, and they may soon have a strong advocate in their nation’s parliament.  Results from the parliamentary elections last weekend in Burma are an encouraging sign.  President Bush and I send our heartfelt congratulations to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and her party, and the people of Burma.  The landmark victory achieved this past weekend is a critical step toward liberty for all of Burma’s people. Our thoughts, our prayers, and our hopes remain with the Burmese people.”
