Trenton - The Jacob Cangemi Memorial Scholarship would like to announce the fifth annual Jacob's Run which includes two competitive runs  – 12.5k (7.77 mile) and 5k – and a 5k Walk for Fun. The event will be held April 28, 2012 starting and finishing in the downtown square of Trenton, Texas.

“We are honored to celebrate the fifth year of this event! Our event last year had many returning and new sponsors, 100+ participants and raised over $6,000 to support this very worthy cause,” said Race Director and Co-Founder, Renee Cangemi. “As always, we are actively pursuing sponsors to help underwrite the event such as t-shirts, refreshments, awards, etc. We have several sponsorship levels available.” said Cangemi. “Visit us at www.jacobsrun.org and go to the sponsor page to either sign up online or access a form to print.”

Yvette Oquin, Co-Founder of the Scholarship says, “Since we are celebrating our fifth year we are adding a 12.5k run which is 7.77 miles. When Jacob passed away on 07/07/07 his friends created a sticker for their car windows that said JAC 73. (If you live in the Texoma area, it’s not uncommon to see these stickers!) This led us to make JAC777 part of our Jacob’s Run logo, hence the 7.77 mile or 12.5k distance. Both the 5K run/walk course and the 12.5K will begin and finish at the Downtown Trenton Square, will follow local streets and go through the park trail. The courses are very challenging with varied terrain, including pavement, 1 mile gravel wooded trail, and some inclines. The 12.5K also includes a gravel road.

Visit us at www.jacobsrun.org to find the maps for both courses. Also find us on Facebook by searching for our Facebook Fan Page ‘Jacob's Run’ or go to our web page and click the Facebook link.”

Laurice Goodwin, Co-Founder of the Scholarship says, “This annual event is the primary fundraiser for the Jacob Cangemi Memorial Scholarship. We offer college scholarships to one Trenton area high school student and one to a student from the Texoma area. Our scholarship is offered to kids who have different learning styles – students who might need additional support to reach their educational potential. We want to not only help these young men and women see college as a reality but to help them stay in college.”

The Jacob Cangemi Memorial Scholarship was founded in 2007 by Jacob's mother Renee Cangemi, her sister Yvette Oquin and Laurice Goodwin, Jacob's former teacher and mentor, to honor his memory. Jacob passed away on 07/07/07 due to injuries sustained from a car wreck. In the 18 years that Jacob lived he left an everlasting memory with all that he touched. He was a devoted son and brother, a loyal friend and hard worker. Jacob was a natural born leader and encourager with a heart for people who were struggling. He consistently overcame adversity in his life and was an inspiration to those he touched. It is in this spirit that the Jacob Cangemi Memorial Scholarship was created.
