Denison, TX – The Board of Directors of Meals on Wheels of Texoma (MOWOT) has selected Greg Pittman to fill the position of Executive Director, filling the vacancy left after Kathey Scott retired on December 31, 2011.
Mrs. Scott is credited with turning the program around, leading it through a total overhaul during which time she systematically built a team of highly competent and highly skilled professionals who are all deeply committed to the program’s mission to end senior hunger. Mr. Pittman was among the first of her new hires, and he was initially recruited because of his experience in management and information technology.
When Mrs. Scott first began her leadership position, the program was at a low point in its history of serving Texoma area senior citizens and disabled persons. However, in the four years she spent working for MOWOT, she created a positive revenue flow, expanded services, and made several major operational improvements which have improved the program’s ability to serve the community effectively and which have helped to create a sustainable future for the program.
Mr. Pittman has worked for several Fortune 100 companies such as Microsoft, Mobil Oil Exploration, and SBC Datacomm. In 2006, he moved to Denison to care for his grandmother in her final years.
Mr. Pittman says, “My mother and I were overwhelmed to see the extent of the commitment of the volunteers for programs like Meals on Wheels and hospice. These volunteers connected with my grandmother on a very personal and intimate level. They were always friends, first and foremost, who also happened to provide a particular service. We couldn’t help but notice that it was always the volunteers or the very lowest paid personnel who made the greatest impression. I remember thinking to myself how rare it was to see someone so compassionate and kind faithfully coming to help my grandmother every day just because they wanted to help. It really was an epiphany for me, and while watching TV one evening, I saw a story on the news about Meals on Wheels. The story emphasized that volunteers were needed and I called them the next day,” said Mr. Pittman.
He began to deliver meals to remote locations every day, and through this volunteer work he met Kathey Scott, who later hired him to manage the Denison Center. His outgoing personality, technology skills, and management experience made him a good fit for the needs of the program. Four years later, on January 1, 2012, Mr. Pittman assumed the role of Executive Director.

“It is an honor to have been selected by Kathey Scott and the Board of Directors for the Executive Director’s position,” said Mr. Pittman in a statement released by the program. “I intend to maintain the momentum that Kathey established, continually evaluating our program, and taking advantage of every opportunity to improve our service. We have finally built a quality brand; one that is well known, and which is associated with a positive image. Over the next year, my number one focus is to strengthen our volunteer base and galvanize our funding base. We are a volunteer-driven program. Volunteers are the backbone of our program; they are the link between our mission and the clients we serve. We can never have too many volunteers, and my goal is to make Meals on Wheels of Texoma one of the most rewarding volunteer opportunities in the Texoma area.”
