Sherman, Texas —The Sherman Museum today announced that John Lee Boyer will be the guest artist at the museum’s January 27, 2012 monthly Lunch Lecture series event entitled, “Sound Tracks: Music From the Railroad.” The free event will begin at noon and last until 1:00 p.m. Due to the ongoing elevator construction project Mr. Boyer will perform in the upstairs gallery amid the TRACKS: Railroads and Interurbans of North Texas exhibit.
Mr. Boyer brings his distinctive style of live acoustic music to the museum. As a solo artist with guitar, harmonica, and vocal, John Lee injects a "down home" feel to his music that encourages listeners to recall an earlier time; a time when life was a little slower, a little easier, and a lot less stressful.

Railroad or “train songs” comprise a genre of traditional American music inspired by the freedom of travel offered by the railroads. A sampling of this genre of songs include: "Waiting for a Train," "Train Whistle Blues," "Rock Island Line," "Orange Blossom Special," "City of New Orleans," "Long Black Train," "Life's Railway to Heaven," "Wabash Cannonball," "I've Been Working on the Railroad," and "Chattanooga Choo Choo."
All friends of the Museum and interested parties are invited to attend. Attendees are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch. The Jones Street door will open at 11:30 a.m. for easier access to the lecture room.
The Sherman Museum is located at 301 South Walnut in Sherman, Texas.
