The Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home will host a community-wide Veterans Day Ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 honoring two Fannin County soldiers who have lost their lives in Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Army Staff Sgt. Michael Shank, 31, was assigned to the 230th Military Police Company, 95th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade. Shank, a Bonham resident, was killed Nov. 28, 2006 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations in Logar, Afghanistan.
Army Sgt. 1st Class Miguel A. Wilson, 36, was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. Wilson, also a Bonham resident, was killed Nov. 21, 2008 when he drowned attempting to rescue another solider while their unit was conducting a dismounted reconnaissance mission in Abu Sayf, Iraq.
Family members left behind by Shank and Wilson will be in attendance. Jimmie Cosper, sister-in-law to home namesake Clyde W. Cosper, will present the widows and mothers of the two fallen soldiers with flags.
The Veterans Day Ceremony is open to the community and all are invited to spend some time with the heroes this day honors.
