DALLAS, Texas – Le’Shai Maston is used to being on the sidelines as Providence Christian School’s head football coach, but on Oct. 8, he was on the gridiron of his alma mater, Baylor University, at Floyd Casey Stadium. More than 50 Providence members traveled to Baylor’s home game to support Maston as he received the notable Baylor Legends Award, which is presented by the Baylor Letterman’s Association to honor outstanding former athletes in their sport.
From 1989 through 1992, Maston played football at Baylor where he was a former two-time all conference linebacker and four-year letterman. He helped the Baylor Bears earn back-to-back bowl game appearances: the Copper Bowl in 1991 and the Sun Bowl in 1992. He earned a degree in business management, and he pursued his professional football career as a Street Free Agent and signed with the Houston Oilers in 1993. He went on to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars and finished his career as a Washington Redskin in 1998.
“Congratulations to Coach Maston for this great honor. At Providence, he encourages our boys on the football field with life lessons about working hard as a team and learning to persevere. In addition, he’s often seen directing carpool, bringing smiles on the faces of our families and those who drive by our school,” said Providence Headmaster Dr. Tony Jeffrey.

He is married; he and his wife, Myosha, have four children. He is a member of Greater New Mount Zion Church where he has attended since childhood.
