On Wed., Oct. 12, the Bonham Rotarians heard from Bonham ISD Superintendent Sonny Cruse about the upcoming bond election. On November 8, the Bonham community will have the chance to vote on the $27.1 million school bond election that the Board of Trustees called for on August 26.
The proposed bond election includes additions and renovations to both I.W. Evans Intermediate School and Bonham High School. Mr. Cruse shared statistics about both campuses, including how I.W. Evans is over the current capacity by approximately 60 students, and information about the proposed projects.
The proposed projects at I.W. Evans Intermediate School include the addition of eight classrooms and a new gymnasium. Currently, the space provided for physical education is not adequate to serve the students. The existing facility will be renovated to include new electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems, upgraded handicap accessibility to meet code, and enlarged classrooms that meet current state standards.
Bonham High School additions include a media center (library), cafeteria/kitchen, classrooms and a multi-purpose center that would include a full-size UIL stage. Renovations include fixing the structural issues on the 2-story academic building, as well as new electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems and upgraded handicap accessibility to meet code.
Mr. Cruse also shared information regarding the tax impact and when citizens can vote. For more information on the bond election, please visit the Bonham ISD website at www.bonhamisd.org . Here you will find more detailed information about the bond election.
Also, another guest at the meeting was Kathie Whiteside, a member of the Vote Yes – Better Schools for Bonham PAC committee. Kathie stated that this is a proposal that will not only directly affect the current students, but the whole community. She encouraged those that were interested in supporting the bond to contact her for opportunities and to remember to vote!
Early voting begins October 24 at the Fannin County Courthouse. Election day is November 8. You can vote at your assigned precinct. Please contact the District for more information.
The Bonham Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at 12:00 noon at the Family Life Center.
