The 1st Saturday Genealogy Group will be hosting a presentation of "The Legend of A Man and His Rifle" by Bob Deberry, a local historian who descends from one of the oldest families in this area.  His great-great grandfather, Andy Thomas, left Mississippi around 1834 and came to Texas, choosing to settle in the area that later became Kentucky Town, about halfway between Tom Bean and Whitewright.

Andy Thomas, was a legend in his time known for his adventuresome nature and as an Indian fighter, having survived multiple confrontations with local native tribesmen.  He was also a friend to some of the west's most notable figures, including Davy Crockett.

The public is cordially invited to this free presentation which will be on Saturday, October 1 at 2 p.m. in the Community Room of the Tom Bean City Hall building which is across the street from the 1st National Bank on S. Britton St.in downtown Tom Bean.  Anyone who is fascinated by the "Old West" flavor of Grayson County will enjoy Bob's presentation. Bring a neighbor or friend.  If you're new to the area, you'll be glad you came.
