The 83rd FFA State Convention was held on the 10th – 15th of July in Lubbock, Texas. A few kids from our very own Trenton FFA left out for Lubbock on the 10th. The group that went consisted of: Cassidy Benavides, Kristina Hayes, Savanna Self, and Rachel Wilkins accompanied by chaperone Kristy Benavides and their FFA advisor Mr. Bradley.
After a long day’s drive, the girls decided to unpack and get ready for a long week. On the first day in Lubbock, Mr. Bradley took the girls to Olton, Texas to visit a cattle feedyard. Sam Stevenson, assistant yard manager, gave us a tour and talked to us about many aspects of a feedyard. We got to see how the feed was mixed and how they use computers to determine the cattle rations. They also got to see the cowboys who had to ride around checking the cattle water to see if any of the cattle were getting sick so they could take them to the “hospital,” where they were kept until they got well.
The next day, Tuesday, the ladies went up to Texas Tech University to register and look around at all the venders set up there. That night Mr. Bradley decided to take the girls to Main Event where they bowled, played laser tag, and played put-put golf while Mr. Bradley showed off his golf skills.

Wednesday morning they headed to the college early for the first of three sessions that lasted the entire day. They got out of the last session pretty late and very tired. Thursday, they had to get up early once again for more sessions but that night they decided to go to the dance that was held. The girls finally made it back to the hotel and started to pack up for the drive home.
Finally, Friday came; they had to attend the last session. All the girls got to sit on the floor with our Area V FFA Association. They all met up at the suburban afterwards and left for home. Another long drive back home, but Mr. Bradley finally got rid of all the girls.
