SAN ANTONIO, Texas - No. 26 Southeastern knotted its South Central Regional contest against No. 8 Emporia State at 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning, but allowed the hornets to score runs in their final four innings to suffer a 10-2 loss in its tournament opener in San Antonio, Texas.
The Savage Storm slip to 34-18 and will be back on the field on May 20 to face the winner of the St. Mary's/Incarnate Word contest.
SE was led on offense by Zach Ragsdale and Dalton Nelson who each racked up three hits, while Brad Shankle and Riley Keith each added one.
Nelson recorded the Storm's lone RBI.
Jimmy Johnson got the start on the hill and tossed 4.2 innings and suffering his fourth loss of the year after allowing five runs on nine hits with two strikeouts.
Heath Wyatt tossed 1.1 innings in relief and allowed a run, while Matt Lentz, James Taylor and Seth Terry combined to throw the final two innings, allowing four runs on seven hits combined.
ESU used the infield hit to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning, with three of their four hits staying in the infield.
The Storm got a run back in the third when Gentry reached on an error that allowed Nelson to score with two outs.
Back-to-back doubles from Keith and Nelson in the fifth tied the game at 2-2.
The Hornets, however, put up three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for good, adding a run in the sixth and two more each in the seventh and eighth to fashion he 10-2 final score.
