Bonham -- Creative Arts Center's Music in the Garden concert series got off to a great start May 5 with a performance by one of the most popular acts of last year's series, the Grayson County College Jazz Combo.

Under the direction of phenomenal keyboardist James Dering, GCC Jazz Combo moved seamlessly from "Honeysuckle Rose," a jazz standard written by Fats Waller in 1928, to contemporary jazz saxophonist Joshua Redman's "Jig-a-Jug" and then back in time to "Nature Boy," the eden ahbez classic made famous by Nat King Cole.

Music in the Garden will continue Thursday, May 12 with Youth Night, featuring a full slate of performers from Fannin, Collin, and Grayson Counties. Opening the concert will be Dynamite Drummers, 3rd and 4th grade students from Neblett Elementary in Sherman.

Following these talented young drummers will be vocal soloists, Lexi Felke and Sarah Lee. Young pianist Will Lacy takes the stage next, followed by Selah Burnett and then Taken by Love, a local contemporary Christian band featuring Jenna Toland, Treavor Allen, Jerod Hudson and Taizia Bennett.  Pianist James Henry and then soloist Abby Collida will follow. Pandemic Asylum, composed of innovative musicians and songwriters performing Nu-metal, will close the evening.

Youth night is sponsored by Bonham Lions Club, Bonham Quick Lube, Warrior Tire, and Bob and Kay Carrel.
