Reliant Energy will partner with the City of Dallas to present the May 14 event
DALLAS – The Trinity River Wind Festival has received a boost of power in the form of its title sponsor, Reliant Energy. Reliant will partner with the City of Dallas to present this inaugural May 14 event featuring all things wind-related.
“The partnership is a logical choice for this event because of the wind theme and we are thrilled to have Reliant Energy share our vision for bringing this new event to North Texas,” said Dallas City Manager Mary Suhm.
The Wind Festival will feature an abundance of outdoor and exhibition action from noon to 6 p.m. including show teams from the Southwest, hot air balloons, Blackland Prairie Raptor Center native birds and Steve Martin and the birds from “Soar”, the new bird show at the Dallas Zoo Amphitheater.
Reliant will host the Welcome Center, a Fun Zone with kites and a Dallas Wind Symphony Orchestra Stage; all of which encompass various activities and giveaways to promote family fun and wind energy education.

“Reliant and NRG Energy are major supporters of wind energy in Texas and we see this Festival as a great opportunity to support green initiatives in the Dallas community,” said YaLonda Lockett, Director, Reliant Energy North Texas Office.
Reliant buys more renewable energy credits (RECs) than any other electricity provider in Texas. All Reliant residential and small business customers can choose a plan with 100 percent Texas wind and all of the company’s term plans include 20 percent Texas wind.
In addition, Reliant recently launched EcoShareSM, a new program that includes the purchase of carbon offsets along with ongoing support to EarthShare of Texas, an organization that provides funding to more than 30 different local and statewide environmental organizations.
About the Trinity River Corridor Project: With a combined investment of $2.5 billion from all interagency partners, public and private sources; the Trinity River Corridor Project is the largest and most complex public works and urban development project undertaken by the City of Dallas. This project is first and foremost a flood protection solution and one of the largest of its type in the nation. The project consists of five major components: flood protection, transportation, recreation, environment stewardship, and business development. The Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, designed by internationally known architect Santiago Calatrava, is under construction and will open in 2011. A second Calatrava designed bridge, the Margaret McDermott Bridge (IH-30), is planned for a later date. The Trinity River Audubon Center (TRAC), a flagship location for the Texas Audubon Society, is a beautiful teaching and recreational site in the Great Trinity Forest. The Standing Wave Kayak Park opens in 2011 and more than 12 miles of new trails have been completed along with the 75-acre Lower Chain of Wetlands which assists with flood protection upstream of the river by as much as one foot in heavy rains.
