Despite the snow, visitors came out to the Creative Arts Center on Friday, Februay 4 for the opening of "Natural Visions," works of art by Chris Cravens and Mart Means.

As an artist, native Texan Chris Cravens of Bonham is truly multi-talented. He works in numerous media, including acrylics, oil, watercolors, and colored pencils.  He also creates sculptures out of wood and found objects.  He is also a photographer.

He says, "I get most of my inspiration for my art from just going out and photographing nature."

Naturally, he carries his camera everywhere he goes.  Chris holds a BA in Fine Arts from Stephen F. Austin State University.  He is trained as a graphic designer and has used his skills in this field working for Texas Instruments and the Caldwell Zoo in Tyler.

Chris Craven's philosophy about life is apparent in his art work.  "When you kneel down to appreciate a flower or some other piece of God's creation you must humble yourself - and that is as it should be."

Mart spent most of his youth in the Texas Panhandle, attended West Texas State University and earned a BS in Fine Arts.  This was followed by many years doing signwork and commercial art.

Mart began painting seriously in 1986, shortly after moving to the Bonham area, working originally in watercolor, although the acrylic medium soon proved to add a versatility that he became very comfortable with.

Mart Means

Mart states, "I am simply overwhelmed by the abundance of incredibly interesting images that surround us here in the Texoma area. As a result, my paintings depict a spectrum of subjects from landscape, still life, portraits, portraits and historically inspired studies.
