Texas Department of Transportation Paris District will continue road clearing efforts with snow plows followed by distributing de-icing materials and sand on roadways, bridges and overpasses Friday night and into Saturday morning. The Paris District has had crews out day and night since the winter storm hit with 160 employees and 110 pieces of equipment working to keep
This evening crews will continue to address snow on heavily-traveled roadways with focus on snow removal while also treating and re-treating with magnesium chloride to keep ice from forming.
The following roadways remain a serious concern as temperatures drop overnight and snow/slush begins to freeze:
TxDOT expects roadways and bridges to be hazardous for travelers overnight as temperatures drop and re-freeze begins. Motorists are encouraged to avoid travel unless necessary. If they must go out, motorists should drive according to the conditions.
When the weather changes, so do driving conditions. The following information can help you drive safely when winter weather strikes.
· Check the road conditions in your area and stay tuned to local news broadcasts for more information on roadway and weather conditions.
· Remove snow and ice from your vehicle before you drive, making sure the headlights and taillights are visible.
· Accelerate slowly.
· Increase your following distance.
· Brake gently in slow, steady strokes to see how much traction you have, and begin braking early when approaching intersections or stops.
· Approach bridges, shaded spots, overpasses and turns slowly.
· Never use cruise control in winter driving conditions.
· Use non-freezing windshield washer liquid.
· Use snow tires and/or chains (as needed).
