McKinney, Texas -- Funeral services for Roland (Pete) Delmar McRae, age 88 of McKinney, TX will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Bonham. Interment will follow at Elwood Cemetery. Mr. McRae died at his home in McKinney, Texas on August 15, 2010 surrounded by his family; he had been suffering from lung cancer for some time.

 

Mr. McRae was born September 12, 1921 in Ivanhoe, TX to parents Willis and Rosa Lee (Bell) McRae. Mr. McRae was active in many veteran organizations. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Bonham, Texas and was a past All American Post commander in VFW Post 9862 in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He was a member of Post 9862 from 1968 until his death. McRae served in the Navy during World War II in March 14th 1942 until June 2, 1946. His last naval assignment was harbored in Buckner Bay, Okinawa when the war in the Pacific ended.

 

 

Mr. McRae is survived by his daughter Mary, son Michael, granddaughter Riley, grandson Xander and sister Nawonna Brown. McRae was most proud of the fact that he had a hand in helping his daughter raise her two children.

 

Family visitation will be held from 7-8 P.M. on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham.
