Laura Amlin of Bonham, recently commissioned to a year of service in Guatemala through the Presbyterian Church USA, visited three churches in East Texas on Sunday, July 25. Laura, along with her parents, Ronnie and Carol Amlin, visited Pine Grove and New Shamrock Presbyterian churches in Clarksville and First Presbyterian Church of Deport.
Laura gave a brief description of her duties when she arrives next month in Guatemala. Beginning August 30, she'll be living in a small town around Antigua, about a mile from Guatemala City, where she'll be helping to train teachers.

Elementary teachers in Guatemala have only achieved a high school education, and Laura's bi-lingual education will be an asset as she helps train teachers with classroom management and teaching techniques. She will also help translate for mission groups from U.S. churches.
Laura graduated from Bonham High School in 2001 and Austin College in 2005. She has taught school in Sherman and McKinney.
