Fannin County Chief Deputy Kirk McMurrey reports that on September 2, 2010, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call of gunshots at a residence on CR 2610 where a man with an assault rifle was possibly holding a person hostage.

Several FCSO patrol units, as well as Fannin County Sheriff Kenneth Moore and Chief Deputy McMurrey responded to the scene, where the suspect, Derrick Baker was taken into custody at gunpoint.  Due to the quick response of the Deputies, the incident was brought to a swift conclusion.  No injuries were sustained by the victims or suspect.

Based on suspect and victim statements, Baker assaulted two victims by forcibly entering the residence and threatening them with deadly force.  Baker was arrested on two charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.  Chief Deputy McMurrey advises that Baker may face a Deadly Conduct charge for discharging a pistol several times into the air.
