Free movies at different parks every Friday in September

McKINNEY, TEXAS (Aug. 31, 2010) – McKinney is bringing back its popular free family movie night for the third year starting this Friday, Sept. 3. Every Friday night in September, Neighborhood Night at the Movies brings a free animated feature to one of four different parks across the city.

Families are invited to attend any and all to enjoy a screening of either Planet 51 or Astro Boy.  All movies will start at dusk, around 7 p.m. Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics to accompany the show.

Planet 51:                   Sept. 3 at Aviator Park, 1201 Monticello Dr

Sept. 17 at Carey Cox Memorial Park, 1611 N. Stonebridge Dr.

Astro Boy:                 Sept. 10 at McKissick Park, 2702 Taylor-Burk Dr.

Sept. 24 at Ash Woods Park, 10301 JFK Blvd.

Movies are shown on the city Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department’s portable and inflatable movie screen. It’s one way to bring special neighborhood activities directly to residents.

“Through programs like Neighborhood Night at the Movies, our community can enjoy free programs right in their neighborhood. We are especially proud to continue to provide free, convenient family activities to our residents,” said Recreation Superintendent Charlie Bryant. “We’ve had parents tell us they are reminded of going to drive-in movies in their youth.”
