McKINNEY, Texas (Aug. 31, 2010) – Today McKinney Interim City Manager Rick Chaffin announced the hiring of Chris Chiancone to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) position leading the strategic direction of the Information Technology (IT) department. He will start Oct. 1.

Chiacone has worked in the IT and security industry for over 20 years, specializing in public sector information technology management and transformation with significant experience from the private sector.

“Chris is an innovative and experienced information technology leader, and we are excited to welcome him to the McKinney team. We know that his dynamic and energetic management style will be a tremendous asset to our city staff as we continue to grow,” said Deputy City Manager Jim Parrish. “His extensive and diverse background has helped him develop a comprehensive understanding of business and technical issues government organizations face.”

He comes to McKinney as the previous IT Manager for the city of Colorado Springs, Colo. He was chosen for that position to help transform operational issues, improve and stabilize enterprise development, develop solutions that accentuate good business process, develop talent, and implement models/frameworks to deliver reliable enterprise services.

I am honored to be part of such a dynamic City, which supports ingenuity, growth, and innovation. It is my intention to bring citizens and city leadership closer together through the use of modern technology and social media practices, and to help make McKinney a leader in high-tech municipal governments,” said Chiancone.

The CIO position was created along with two other IT positions in response to recommendations from a Strategic Technology Plan. The funding for new staff was already budgeted and being spent on external vendors. The creation of a Chief Information Officer (CIO) position focused on long-term city technology strategies.

Before joining the staff in Colorado Springs, Chiancone worked most recently as the Information Security Manager at BB&T and the City of Henderson, Nevada, and as an adjunct professor at ITT Technical Institute.
