A star-packed program group of A-list musicians celebrate the influence of guitarist Chet Atkins on their lives and careers. Tune in for performances by Atkins with Mark Knopfler, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and others. Recorded in 1987. 

 

The Who at Kilburn 1977

Saturday, September 18 at 10:30 p.m.

Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle and Keigh Moon perform at the Gaumont State Theatre in Kilburn, North London for the documentary The Kids Are Alright. The restored concert film features one of Keith Moon’s best live performances.

 

American MastersCachao: Uno Mas

Monday, September 20 at 9:00 p.m.

Considered one of the greatest Afro-Cuban musicians of all time, “Cachao” Lopez is credited with revolutionizing Cuban music. He died in 2008. The film features a 2005 performance in San Francisco. Friend, fan and actor Andy Garcia plays. He also narrates the film.

Wednesday, September 22 at 8:00 p.m.

It’s opening night at Lincoln Center and the New York Philharmonic and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra perform the U.S. premiere of Wynton Marsalis’ Symphony No. 3, Swing Symphony. Also on the program are Richard Strauss’ Don Juan and Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphoses on Themes Symphonic Metamorphoses on Themes by Carl Maria von Weber.

Patty Griffin performs songs from her acclaimed recording Children Running Through with special guest, keyboardist Ian McLagan and a 5-piece string section. The concert takes place at the Angel Orensanz Center in New York.
