Van Alstyne Voices Toastmasters met on August 30 for their Humorous Speech and Table Topics Club Contest. M.J. Presley presided as Contest Master. Merrill Hazelton and Juanita Hazelton competed against each other in the Table Topics contest. Steve Smith and Jeff Hall competed against each other in the Humorous Speech contest. Sally Hall served as timer.
Merrill Hazelton and Steve Hall will advance to the next level, the Area contest, on October 20. After the contest, Chuck Bardroff gave a non-contest humorous speech. Charles Bannister as guest also spoke to the club.
A short business meeting followed. There will be no meeting on September 6, so the agenda was set for the next meeting on September 13. Members were reminded that dues are due.
Toastmasters International is a not-for-profit educational organization whose mission is to help people develop their communication skills. Toastmasters can help people build their self-confidence and develop speaking skills in a friendly, positive environment.
