A wildlife seminar will be held on September 10, 2010 at the Weisz Ranch located north of Lannius 4.7 miles on CR 2645. There will be signs (Conservation Event) posted at HWY 82 and FM 1396 to direct traffic to the ranch. The seminar will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end about 2:30 p.m.
Jason Weisz, ranch owner, will discuss feral hog harvest for the year and what methods have worked for him. That will be followed up by a hands-on demonstration on how to construct a feral hog trap using t-post and cattle panels. This session will be led by Ragan White, Regional Biologist with the Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Randolph McGee, the newly appointed Game Warden with Texas Parks and Wildlife will discuss laws and regulations regarding hunting feral hogs and other game animals.
Wyatt Beezley of Trenton, who is a Bobwhite Quail Brigade Cadet, will discuss and demonstrate what good quail habitat is and how we can improve our quail habitat in North Texas.
Lunch will be provided by the Fannin Soil & Water Conservation District. Following the lunch, we will travel to the Red River Farm and Duck Club where Randy Moore and Ronny Naylor, farm manager, will discuss thinning of hardwoods to improve wildlife habitat. This is an excellent demonstration of thinning oak and hickory forest to improve forage for turkey and deer.
Funding for this event is made possible by a grant from the Martha, David and Bagby Lennox Foundation.
If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Mary Jane Godwin or Randy Moore at 903-583-9513 x 3. We need the number count for the meal.
