A&M-Commerce ‘Lions Roar’ to kick off fall semester Monday

COMMERCE, Texas – Texas A&M University-Commerce will kick off the fall 2010 semester with two weeks of Lions Roar, which gives students the opportunity to participate in multiple events and mingle with other students across campus beginning Monday.
 
“Lions Roar is two full weeks of great events, giveaways, free food, and valuable time to get to know fellow students, faculty and staff members,” said Lisa Martinez, A&M-Commerce assistant director of marketing and new media.
 
Hot Spots will be located throughout campus from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. where students can quickly get all of their questions answered about the new semester. Laptops will also be available. Update Your Network, an opportunity for students to get acquainted with student organizations, campus departments and local community businesses, will take place at the Sam Rayburn Student Center (SRSC) from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
 
Tuesday features “I Got Lucky @ A&M-Commerce” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the SRSC Atrium. Participants have the chance to Build-A-Lion and get their picture with Lucky the Lion. The Student Government Association is also sponsoring a “Change for Change” raffle for donations of pocket change that benefits Second Harvest Food Bank.
 
A&M-Commerce president Dr. Dan Jones and his family will be welcoming all students to his house for free food and games at the annual Blue and Gold Field Day on Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. University vans will be escorting guests from Whitley and Berry Hall, Sorority Row and the SRSC (east side) at 5:25 p.m., 5:35 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.
 
The action continues into the next week as students can let loose at the Campus Water Balloon Fight on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 3 p.m. on parking lot G across from the Alumni Center. Wednesday, Sept. 8 features Blue and Gold T-shirt Swap from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., where students can swap a shirt from another college or university for an iRoar shirt. All traded shirts will be donated to Goodwill.
 
Live music from a variety of genres will be showcased on Friday, Sept. 10 at the Block Party on the west side of the SRSC from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. . The Josh Abbot Band headlines with additional acts including Fundamental Elements and Dorrough, and free food and giveaways will also be available.
 
Get On The Bus on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 11:30 a.m. for a free ride to the Harvey Martin Classic at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Students will have the opportunity to win giveaways and grab Harvey Martin Classic shirts as the bus takes the fans to cheer on the A&M-Commerce Lions against the Angelo State Rams.
