The MCDC Board of Directors and staff met in regular session on August 19, 2010 at 8:00 a.m. The board approved the 2010-2011 budget, and voted to approve funding to six different not for profit organizations in McKinney

• McKinney Economic Development Corporation made a budget amendment to allow the hiring of a new staff person to develop and support international marketing efforts
• McKinney Chamber of Commerce government legislative committee is engaging in debate with TXDot to keep gas tax from being increased. The committee is opposed to legislative requirements implemented with Healthcare bill and will actively oppose these new measures
• McKinney Convention and Visitors Bureau received an award recently at the TACV conference. The honor recognizes their efforts marketing McKinney online

Meeting Summary
In addition to the six nonprofit organizations that received funding from MCDC, the Board approved the sponsorship of the McKinney Community Holiday Tree Lighting. The Tree Lighting ceremony will take place on Friday, November 26, 2010 during the Dickens of a Christmas annual event.
