COMMERCE, Texas – The Texas A&M University-Commerce planetarium will be featuring “Natural Selection,” a show about scientific discoveries, theories and scenery through the eyes of Charles Darwin, beginning Friday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m.

“The most beautiful part of this show is sailing along with Darwin on the HMS Beagle,” said Dr. Kent Montgomery, A&M-Commerce planetarium director. “You feel like you are on the sea with him.”

Darwin pondered questions of extinction among new species and many other physical phenomena during the Victorian era on his adventurous voyage aboard the HMS Beagle. It was through his experiences where he conceived his theories of natural selection. In “Natural Selection,” audiences will witness Darwin’s discoveries, observations and theories of formation and diversity of life on Earth.

Admission is $3 for patrons under 18 and A&M-Commerce students with ID, $3.50 for university employees and senior citizens, and $4 for all others. A discount of $1 per person will be offered if tickets are purchased at the same time for two shows viewed on the same day.

Each planetarium show begins with brief remarks by a member of the planetarium staff, who displays the Commerce night sky on the planetarium's 40-foot dome and points out the current visible constellations, stars and planets. To make reservations, call 903-468-8650 or e-mail planet@tamu-commerce.edu.
