SHERMAN, TEXAS—The Austin College Concert Band is seeking qualified musicians from the community to audition for performance, with openings in most sections of the band. The Concert Band director, Robert Archer, Austin College adjunct instructor in music, explained that the group is a full concert band, doubling many parts. Archer said the large ensemble is dedicated to reading and performing traditional and contemporary band literature.
The band, now in its eighth season, is a joint effort of Austin College and community musicians. Band members include Austin College students — music majors and non-music majors, Austin College faculty, area high school band directors, and community members who enjoy playing music.
The band will meet for its first rehearsal of the fall on Wednesday, Sept.8, at 7 p.m. in the rehearsal room of Craig Hall on the Austin College campus, and regular rehearsals will continue each Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in Craig Hall The band’s fall concert will be presented November 17at 7:30 p.m. in Wynne Chapel.
