Richard Ferrier was a registered architect, interior designer, and a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. He taught at UT Arlington since 1968 and served as the Associate Dean, 1985-1995. His work may be found in the permanent drawing collections of the University of Houston, the Frito-Lay Corporation, the American Institute of Architects National Archives in Washington, D.C., and the United States Library of Congress: Architecture Drawing Archives.
Recognitions for his work include ten AIA/Dallas Design Awards, forty-eight AIA/Dallas Drawing Awards, twelve Texas Architect Drawing Awards, twelve Competition Awards from the American Society of Architectural Perspectivists, and First Prize, 1990, in the Compact House National Design Competition. Professor Ferrier lectured and served as visiting critic widely and was Juror for numerous design and drawing competitions. He practiced architecture as Richard B. Ferrier, FAIA, and as principal of Firm X, Arlington-Dallas.
He co-edited the Architecture Merit Badge Handbook for the Boy Scouts of America. His work was published in Composite Drawing, Architecture in Perspective, Designing Interiors, Hand Drawn Worlds, Visionary Architecture, Texas Architect, Texas Homes, Texas Business, Interiors, and Architectural Record. Professor Ferrier also served as a visiting critic and a consultant at the Prairie View A&M School of Architecture for many years.
