The Fort Worth Library will celebrate the conclusion of this year's Summer Reading Challenge in a big way, with a grand celebration to be held Sunday, Aug. 8.
The event will include a variety of fun activities for all ages. The schedule includes two live bands, three professional story-tellers, gaming, crafts activities and a screening of the movie "Night at the Museum."
The highlight of the afternoon will be the announcement of the grand prize winners. More than 30 grand prizes will be given away, including netbook computers, MP3 players, Kindle reading devices and gift cards to Barnes & Noble. Door-prize drawings also will be held throughout the afternoon.
Presiding over the announcement will be Mayor Mike and Rosie Moncrief and the honorary co-chairs of the summer reading program, Robert Earley, president and CEO of JPS Health Network, and Kathleen Hicks, District 8 councilmember.
The event marks the official conclusion of "Mayor Mike and Rosie's Summer Reading Challenge 2010." The challenge is a family literacy program that promotes the value and pleasure of reading. Sponsors of the challenge are the Friends of the Fort Worth Public Library and the Fort Worth Public Library Foundation.
The celebration will be held 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, at the Central Library, 500 W. Third St. The event is free and open to the public. Free parking is available on street and in parking garages.
