Three years ago, the Lone Star Land Cruisers club began an annual trek to Bonham to help make Christmas a little brighter for local citizens.  Their destination is Haven of Rest, a non-profit organization on Center St. that offers a comforting place to stay for those without anywhere to go.

Joyce Chavez, who runs the center, has many stories of blessings bestowed upon Haven of Rest.  From food donations coming in right after the pantry runs out to community support just when they need it the most, "somehow we get everything we need," she said.

This Christmas, Haven of Rest found itself helping more families and children with less resources than usual.  Yet right as the volunteers were preparing food and toy baskets for delivery, the Lone Star Land Cruisers called, ready to help.

Admist the excitement of their third meeting on December 20, 2003, LSLC DFW President Butch Baker announced that their club raised $1,500 for Haven of Rest, the most ever.

The news shocked Chavez, who immediately thought of the children that this money will bring a little joy to.  This Christmas, over 170 children and 50 families will be sponsored by Haven of Rest, thanks in part to the Lone Star Land Cruisers.

Volunteers at Haven of Rest in Bonham gathered to meet the Lone Star Land Cruiser Club.

Haven of Rest helpers claim the organization has been blessed by community support.

Land Cruiser owners from across North Texas came to deliver their donation.

The two groups posed for pictures together.

Lone Star Land Cruisers of CFW President Butch Baker surprised Joyce Chavez with a check for $1,500.

Chavez, overwhelmed by the donation, is speechless.

Chavez thanked the entire club for their generosity.

Land Cruisers lined up for action.
