The Sam Rayburn House Museum, along with the Bonham Visitor Center, Creative Arts Center, Fannin County Historical Commission and Fannin County Museum hosted Bonham’s first Quilt Hop on Saturday, May 8.

During the Quilt Hop, the Sam Rayburn House Museum opened the exhibit, “Threaded Through Time: The Sam Rayburn Family Quilts.” The exhibit focuses on twelve quilts within the collection of the Sam Rayburn House Museum. The exhibit includes color photos of each of the twelve quilts, artifacts and a hands-on display of quilts.

Kids had the opportunity to create their own colorful quilt squares during the event.

The free event included music by the Fannin County Civic Band, hands-on quilting activities for children and quilt-themed tours of Sam Rayburn’s home. The twelve quilts featured in the exhibit were the focus of the tours. Tour guides turned the quilts as they discussed them with each group of visitors.

The Fannin County Civic Band provided music for the event.

The next event at the Sam Rayburn House Museum is the Texas Historical Commission’s Historic Sites Free Day on Sunday, May 16. The public will have an opportunity to experience the real stories of these real places for free admission all day Sunday. Admission is free at the Museum and all other Texas Historical Commission Sites on the 16th, including the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site in Denison and the Sam Bell Maxey State Historic Site in Paris.
