DALLAS – April 7, 2010 – McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. (www.mccarthy.com), a Texas builder for nearly 30 years, has begun construction on the Frisco Municipal Parking Garage. The new structure will replace the existing surface parking lots used by the city, adding an additional 574 spaces to serve Frisco residents and visitors.
Funded by the city of Frisco, the 192,000-square-foot structure will include five levels of parking, quadrupling the number of spaces for the city. The spaces will be available at no cost to Frisco residents and other visitors accessing City Hall and the Frisco Public Library, as well as neighboring restaurants, businesses and special events in and around Frisco Square.
“The municipal parking garage is a much-needed addition to the rapidly-growing Frisco Square area, increasing our parking availability to a total of 644 spaces in and around the garage when complete,” said George Purefoy, Frisco city manager. “The city appreciates the public’s patience during construction, and we are working with McCarthy to make it an efficient process.”
The new garage will feature a brick, stone and stainless steel mesh façade and will be completed in less than a year utilizing McCarthy’s fast track construction methods. The builder will be challenged with minimizing disruption to surrounding Frisco communities and venues during the construction process while maintaining a safe construction zone very near other functioning businesses and the main drop off for the public library.
“We’re excited to be working with the city of Frisco on this important project while utilizing our expertise in building parking facilities,” said Dan Cummings, project director for McCarthy. “Our team will work to meet the quick deadlines set forth by the city and minimize disruption to the area, delivering a user-friendly and built-to-last structure that will meet the needs of Frisco for years to come, adding to its success and strength as the city continues to grow.”
In addition to the Frisco Municipal Parking Garage, McCarthy’s Texas Division has been involved with several other significant parking structures in the area including the supporting underground parking garage for the AT&T Performing Arts Center Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre and garages for Nortel Networks, Children’s Medical Center of Dallas and the headquarters for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas.
Designed by Carl Walker, Inc., the Frisco Municipal Parking Garage is slated for completion in December 2010.
