GCC registration opens for summer, fall classes

Grayson County College is accepting registrations for both summer sessions, the fall semester, and both fall half sessions. Registration is open to returning students and to new students who have completed the GCC application process.
Advising and registration for Summer I Semester continue through June 3. Day classes begin June 7 and conclude July 8. Summer II Semester advising and registration are available through July 8. Classes run from July 12 to August 12.
Fall brings three options to students. In addition to its regular fall semester from Aug. 23 to Dec. 9, GCC is offering two fall half sessions to accommodate the academic needs of its burgeoning enrollment. Half sessions meet for eight weeks; the first runs from Aug. 23 to Oct. 15 and the second begins Oct. 18 and concludes Dec. 9. Most of the courses are delivered via the Internet. Subjects include core classes in liberal arts, fine arts, math and sciences. A few developmental courses are available as well.
“Students are encouraged to register early whether they choose to attend traditional fall semester classes or take advantage of the new Fall half sessions,” said Kim Faris, GCC’s director of admissions and records. “Doing so will help them secure the classes they want and to receive admissions, College 101 and academic advising in a timely manner.”
While classes don’t begin until Aug. 23, several summer deadlines are looming for those who wish to enroll in fall classes. The financial aid priority deadline is June 1.
Visit the GCC website at www.grayson.edu and click on Financial Aid for more information.
In addition, GCC’s admission priority deadline is July 1.
Priority advising and registration for all fall offerings are ongoing through July 29. During this priority period, students have access to enrollment and academic advisers who can personally assist them. Late advising and registration takes place Aug. 2-19 for the fall semester and Fall Half Session I; it continues for Fall Half Session II until Oct. 14. According to Faris, enrollment services and academic advisers are available for late registration as well, but many of the classes have filled by then and students should expect lengthy wait times (two to three hours) during August registration.
Students may register and pay for summer or fall classes on-site or online by visiting the GCC website and clicking on Campus Connect.
“The online class schedule is accessible only to returning students and new students who have been accepted to the college,” Faris said. “Prospective students must complete GCC’s free admissions application process before they can register.”
For admission information, visit the college’s website and click on Getting Started. Most students have little difficulty with the enrollment process; however, students who have received their high school diplomas through online schools and those who do not have a high school diploma or GED should contact GCC’s Office of Admissions as soon as possible.
“Many online schools are shams or diploma mills that fraudulently issue invalid diplomas,” Faris said. “GCC only recognizes Texas private schools accredited through the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission.”
While students may register on-site or online, they are not actually enrolled at GCC until they pay tuition and fees. The last day to pay for classes is at 4 p.m. on June 3 for Summer I, on July 8 for Summer II, on Aug. 19 for fall semester and Fall Half Session I, and on Oct. 14 for Fall Half Session II.
