COMMERCE —  An elderly man was found dead at his home on Sunday March 14 after officers responded to a welfare concern in the 700 block of Harrison.

An investigation showed that the 85-year-old man identified as Calogero Gibaldi had been working on the porch of his house.  Several boards and construction items were found at the scene.  Sometime while Mr. Gibaldi was working on the roof portion of the porch, it collapsed on him.  Mr. Gibaldi had been working on the project on his own and was trapped and pinned by the roof.  It is unknown at what time the incident occurred but officers were called out at 7:47 pm when a neighbor became concerned for Mr. Gibaldi’s whereabouts.

Mr. Gibaldi’s family has been contacted and is currently making funeral arrangements for him.  It was an unfortunate accident that occurred and our condolences go out to Mr. Gibaldi’s family.
