Lions finish seventh at Lion Invitational

Senior Heather Pantalion and junior Kathleen May each tied for 20th to lead the Texas A&M University-Commerce womenıs golf team to a seventh-place finish at the Lion Invitational on Tuesday at the Tanglewood Golf Resort & Spa in Pottsboro.
 
Pantalion and May each shot a +24 and 168 for the 36-hole tournament. The duo shared 20th-place honors with Ana Morales of Arkansas Tech, Megan Birdsey of Newman and Randee Stegman of Angelo State. 
 
A&M-Commerce junior Mallory Kempf tied for 26th with a 170 (82-88), junior Megan Benites tied for 52nd with a 177 (86-91) and sophomore Malonie Oats tied for 59th with a 179 (83-96). Playing as an individual, senior Noelle Garcia lowered her score from Monday by seven strokes in Tuesdayıs final round for a 189 (98-91).
 
Angelo State won the team title in convincing fashion with a 17-stroke
advantage over runner up Incarnate Word.

The Rambelles shot a 631 (317-314) and had the best team score in both rounds. The Lions finished seventh with a 680 (334-346), five strokes away from sixth-place honors.
 
Joanna De Sa Peirera of Incarnate Word rallied from a one-stroke deficit entering Tuesdayıs final round and posted a one-over par 73 for a two-stroke victory. De Sa Peirera shot six-over par for the victory to edge Kylee Johnson of Cameron, who shot an eight-over par and identical rounds of 76.
 
The next tournament for A&M-Commerce is the Midwestern State Invitational, starting on Monday, March 22nd to be held at the Champions Course in Wichita Falls, Texas.
