“This show is very exciting and thought provoking,” said Dr. Kent Montgomery, A&M-Commerce Planetarium Director. “The stunning scenes will take your breath away.”
“Violent Universe” will show audiences the upheaval of a giant star that explodes its material into space, a future encounter between Earth and a large asteroid and the forces that hold the universe together and occasionally rip it apart. The show is narrated by Patrick Stewart of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and the X-Men films.
The planetarium will also be showing “Astronaut,” a film about what it takes to become an astronaut and the perils involved in living in space, on Fridays at 8 p.m. beginning April 9. Ewan McGregor narrates. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame show, which features 40 minutes of rock music, will be playing on the first Friday of every month at 9 p.m. as well.
All planetarium shows begin with brief remarks from a member of the planetarium staff who presents a tour of the Commerce night sky and points out visible constellations, stars, and planets on the planetarium’s 40-foot dome. Audiences view the shows on the planetarium’s state-of-the-art Digistar 3, an all-digital projection system.
Admission to each show is $3 for A&M-Commerce students and guests 18 and under, $3.50 for university employees and $4 for all others. A discount of $1 per person will be offered if tickets are purchased at the same time for two shows on the same day.
