The Trenton Tigers hosted their first annual Trenton Baseball Tournament. 8 teams participated in pool and bracket play, getting a total of 4 games each. The Tigers had a strong performance in the tourney and finished 3-1 over the three days.
The Tigers defeated Leonard in their first game by the score of 12-2. Trenton finished the game with 11 hits and 1 error. Justin Hinton pitched a complete game for Trenton to get the win on the mound. Dylan Blaylock led the Tigers at the plate by going 3-3 with 3 RBI’s.
The second game for Trenton was a rematch with the Howe Bulldogs who defeated Trenton this past Tuesday at RoughRider stadium. Trenton came out on top in the rematch, defeating Howe by the score of 6-2. Dylan Blaylock gave a great performance on the mound. Blaylock went all 6 innings, gave up 2 ER, 4 hits, 1 BB, and struck out 5. Kevin Long finished the game 2-3 at the plate with 1 RBI. Nathan Henry had a big 2 RBI double for the Tigers.
The Tigers lost their third game of the tournament when Lindsay won a hard fought game by the score of 10-7. A few costly errors hurt the Tigers and were too much to overcome. Freshman Slater Stone gave a good effort but took the loss on the mound for Trenton. Stone pitched 3 1/3 innings, gave up 0 ER, 8 hits, 2 BB, and struck out 2. Randy Tripp pitched the last 1 2/3 innings for Trenton. Justin Hinton led the Tigers at the plate by going 3-3 with 2 RBIs.
The Tigers finished the tournament with a win over North Lamar JV by the score of 11-1. Freshman Dylan McCarley got the win on the mound for Trenton. McCarley went 4 innings, gave up 2 hits, 0 ER, 2 BB, and struck out 5. Randy Tripp led Trenton at the plate by going 2-2 with a 2 run HR in the first inning. Bubba Oneal (jungle-cat) showed off the leather with a diving catch in RF.
Trenton’s season record is 6-2. The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday as they host the Celeste Bluedevils at 6:30 for the opening game of district.
