As managing principal of HKS Clinical Solutions & Research, Harvey directs the strategic development of the team. He also directs the group’s multiple activities of operational planning services, clinical support services to design teams and research staff.
Harvey founded the Center for Advanced Design Research and Evaluation (CADRE) to develop and implement relevant original research in the areas of architectural and engineering design solutions having an impact on end users, including occupant well-being and user effectiveness; operational performance; and sustainability of the built environment.
Throughout his 35-year healthcare architecture career, he has influenced the healthcare environment with design research studies that reveal how architecture affects safety and patient visibility; improves patient outcomes and satisfaction, increases operating efficiencies; reduces nurse walking distances; simplifies design; and reduces costs – while providing the highest standard of care.
With Harvey managing the firm’s aggressive research efforts, HKS has emerged as an international industry leader with respect to architectural research, building functional performance evaluation and evidence-formed design practices – as attested by multiple publications in respected general architectural as well as healthcare-specific, peer-reviewed journals.
He shares his concepts, ideas and philosophy through frequent speaking at industry conferences for the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health (AIA-AAH), the Center for Health Design, the American Society of Healthcare Engineers and the Environment Design Research Association.
