McKinney -- A young Whitewright Tiger team saw their 2010 playoff run come to an end Thursday night in the area round at the hands of the veteran No. 2-ranked Ponder Lions, 66-38.

A polished Ponder offense took control from the start.  The Lions had a 17-6 lead after the first period and Ponder stretched that into a 35-16 lead at halftime.

Whitewright's offense came alive in start of the third period with Tyrone Swoopes working inside for a basket, Hamilton Luper grabbing an offensive rebound and taking it back up for two points and Christopher Bearden hitting a lay-up.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, Ponder seemed to answer every shot.  The Lions' big man in the middle, Scott Gregg, dropped in two free throws and then Kaleb Broadsheet and Jorden Young knocked down three-point shots and Ponder pulled away to lead, 52-30, after three quarters.

The Lions outscored the Tigers 14-8 in the final frame to pick up a 28-point win.

Ponder had five players finish in double figures. Kaleb Broadsheet led all scorers with 17 points, David Robinson finished with 14 points, with Scott Gregg and Jake Blackmon each throwing in 13 points.  Blackmon is a junior and the other top four scorers for the Lions are seniors making their final playoff run.

For Whitewright, it was sophomore Gerren Ballard and junior Hamilton Luper leading the way with eight points apiece.  Freshman post Tyrone Swoopes and senior Christopher Bearden each scored six, senior point guard Jordan Williams finished with five points, senior Brett Hayes had three points and junior Bryant Threadgill threw in two points.

Whitewright wraps up another very successful season at 25-9.

Ponder improves to 32-4 on the season and advances to the regional quarterfinals.
